I’m an avid Podcast listener and recently I stumbled across an extract from an interview with the actor Terry Crews. In this interview he shared a transformative question that he posed to himself during challenging times: “Imagine if someone was going to give me a million dollars to sweep this floor. How would you sweep it?”
Terry says that this mindset shift helped him overcome depression and motivated him to excel in every job he took, leading to his successful acting career. By adopting this “Million Dollar Mindset” he was able to reverse-engineer excellence and motivation, creating a habit of giving his all in every task, no matter how menial.

After six years in the NFL, his football career ended, and he was unsure what to do next. He had seen the lifestyle and potential earnings of NFL players, but unfortunately, he never reached superstar status. Instead, he had to take on odd jobs including sweeping floors at a factory, just to make ends meet.
At that time, he enjoyed art and animation and so he decided to take a chance and move with his wife and family to Los Angeles to pursue a career in animation. Unfortunately for him it was right when Pixar released the computer-animation box office sensation Toy Story.
However, his failed attempts at a career in animation lead him to an acting opportunity instead, and he has since gone on to enjoy a successful career as an actor including roles in White Chicks, Everybody Hates Chris, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Expendables franchise.
Terry Crews’ journey really is a testament to perseverance, never giving up, having the right mindset and continuously reinventing himself.
